Old Church

Our History

Southwest began in 1969 in Edgecliff Village and moved into our new facility in 2005 in southwest Fort Worth just south of Hulen Mall. We have our roots in the Restoration Movement of the early 1800s and share a common heritage with around 6,000 other Independent Christian churches. We aren't part of a denomination, and we don't belong to an oversight organization. Each church in our brotherhood is locally autonomous. Despite diversity in many areas, our churches have much in common: 1) a common understanding of Scripture, 2) a common heritage, and 3) a common goal to restore the Biblical pattern so that Christians united can connect the world to the God who made them. The 6,000 churches have a total membership close to 2 million and support more than two dozen colleges and seminaries.
